Some useful information, hint and tips, for members and potential new members

What activities are available at Kielder Water SC?
  • We currently offer Sailing, Windsurfing and Paddle Boarding to our members, and it is possible to do this all year round (weather permitting of course).
  • In addition we are an RYA Training Centre and as such we are able to offer RYA courses in sailing, windsurfing and powerboating to our members.

I’d like to bring my boat to the club, can you accommodate this?
  • If you are bringing a boat to the club we would kindly ask that you get in touch first. While we can offer storage and launching for most types of sailing dinghies and day boat, our facilities may not be suitable for some boats with fixed (or lifting) keels. In these cases Kielder Yacht Club may be better suited.
  • For members (new or existing) who are thinking of bringing day boats (fixed or lifting keel), you must ensure that you are able to launch and recover using your own vehicle. It is worth to note that water levels fluctuate which may have an impact on launching and recovering in shallower water.
  • At the moment we do not have capacity to welcome any more trailer sailers (lifting or fixed keel boats, of approx. 17 foot+) at the club.

I’m visiting the area soon for a holiday and would like to sail from the club, is this possible?
  • Unfortunately we can not offer day launching for visitors. In these instances we would advise you to ask at the Waterside Park, at Leaplish, where a public slip is located.

I am visiting Kielder for a holiday and would like to do a sailing course at the club, is this possible?

  • Unfortunately we can not offer sailing courses for visitors. Courses are only available for club members or via prior arrangement in collaboration with other sailing clubs with our training team.

I am new to the sport of sailing or windsurfing, am I able to come and try it out before committing to join the club?
  • Yes, we run taster sessions for both sailing and windsurfing throughout the season (from April to October). It is possible to book a taster session here

I would like to join but I don’t own a boat and/or windsurfing kit, what are my options?
  • Becoming a sailing club member, you are able to use our club boats or windsurfs, so you don’t need to buy your own boat. We have a selection of wetsuits and buoyancy aids available also, but it is better to buy your own (for fit and comfort).
