On the 16th & 17th September, Kielder Water SC welcomed members and visitors from across the region as we hosted our annual open. Over the 2 days we had 20 boats on the water, with a mix of conditions from little and fluky wind to a solid breeze. On the Saturday we welcomed back the ILCA class for their Lakeland and Border GP. The race officer (Howard Steavenson) set three different courses that were enjoyed by all, particularly as the breeze increased and steadied.
On the Sunday, several ILCA’s returned to race and formed part of one large handicap fleet. Three further races ensued across different courses and varying wind conditions. Using their local knowledge and skill, Kielder’s very own Rob Shaw & Ian Little prevailed as overall event winners, closely followed by Greg Liggins (Derwent Reservoir SC) and Rob & Clare Howard (Sunderland YC).
